The Pregnancy Discrimination Act was created in order to protect women against discrimination regarding pregnancy, childbirth and any other medical complications experienced as a result of pregnancy or childbirth. This act explains that any woman affected by pregnancy must be treated the same as other employees or applicants in the hiring process, must get the same benefits, and be treated as a regular employee. This includes medical leave if a woman is unable to perform her job temporarily.
